Looking to the Bolivian border from San Pedro there is this beautiful strato volcano Licancabur (5400 m). The border between Chile and Bolivia goes right accross the top of this mountain.
The scenery is awe inspiring. Planes. volcano's, mountain ridges, ice and snow....

The nice road on the Chilean side.
A loneley Alpaca..... |
And here is the rest of the herd..... in the endless landscape. |
Near to Bolivia and higher up, the weather gets more and more cloudy and dark. Fresh snow on the mountains.
The border (customs) is in the middle of nowhere at an altitude of more or less 5000 meters.
The customs office.... |
Luggage out of the minibus into the four-wheel-drives. |
Some days after we passed this border, a truck laden with petrol ran into the small building and exploded. |
Behind this bus were the "toilets". Quite windy, but what a view....
From inside one of the four-wheel-drives. Very old Toyota's. The cloud in front is another car. The coming days only dirt roads. |
Then we see the first lake.... Icy and stunning.
